Velvet & White Mules
Have you ever put on an outfit and feel as if you could wear it every single day for the rest of your life and be completely happy that way? Honestly, I wish it could be that simple. If it could be, that would be this outfit for me. I got this velvet skirt at a thrift store back when I was in high school and you know an item has to be loved dearly to stay in rotation for a decade.
I used to wear it all the time back then as well, though it often awkwardly cling to the seats in my car, which were also velvet. (Red velvet. The finest in early 90’s luxury upholstery.) I have a lot of memories in it. It’s survived eight moves, outlived multiple romantic partners, and seen me at my best and my worst. I love it, even though I tend to want to wear it most when it’s slightly too warm outside for its long, dark, velvety beauty. I feel “French girl cool” in it, especially when paired with some ankle boots or leather mules, as you can see I did the latter here.

My favorite looks are always the simplest. I could easily change up the shoe situation here for a completely different vibe. For a pre-birthday Sunday though, these mules (loafers? Backless loafers?) were perfect.
